Topspin: How did you come up to being a music artist and what makes you so passionate about House music? And really curious to ask about your project's name - why UGLH?
UGLH: Well, it's all about the music! That's the reason... We always loved it since we were kids and today the music expresses our feelings and the way we are. We like to think that anybody listening to our music enjoys it and has fun, like when you read a book or watch a film. It could be that wonderful music might spread good and not evil.
UGLH is the acronym of Underground Loophole. As well as liking underground house music, our studio really is underground. You could say it's the hole in the ground where we work with our different sound loops that we create. We also like to think of our studio as a loophole that allows us to get around the normal rules of everyday life.
Topspin: Do you use any analogue synths or it's all about software for you these days? Would be interesting to know which sequencer you prefer too, if it's not a secret:
UGLH: In the past we used a lot of synths and samplers but our latest productions are fully software made. We love to make music using different sound sources and everything is arranged and composed on Cubase.
Topspin: Everyone has his own source of inspiration - what would be yours?
UGLH: Peace, nature, travels, cultures, books, films, art, people, home and of course music
Topspin: What do you like to do on your free time when you're not involved into music?
UGLH: What's free time?? Joking aside, we're always and totally addicted to the music by the way! We also like reading, running, enjoying nature, beautiful places and playing... Everything is playable...
Topspin: Tell us about your latest releases please - I'm sure, most significant here would be Big Lie track, which held top position at beatports deep house chart! And could you share your impressions about releasing your tracks at 8bit & Great Stuff?
UGLH: Yep, Big Lie gave us such satisfaction and we didn't think it would get to the top and the nomination for the Beatport Music Awards 2010 as best deep house track. It is great! But we're really feeling good vibes about all our latest productions and remixes after Big Lie such as Blue Note, Cadence, Like This, Ti Sento and the newest House Gift and Tease.
The 8Bit release was a great and important goal for us as we always loved the label and the way it works. We would like to thanks the guys behind it, Gorge and Nick Curly, who gave us the chance and the trust. It was the same thing about Great Stuff. A&R Rainer was hard to persuade, but in the end we did it and now we're glad to be part of the label artists. Ciao Rainer!
Topspin: Could you share with us about your favorite artists and labels?
UGLH: They are so much to mention but just to name a few: Timo Mass, Radioslave, Steve Bug, Steve Parker as artists and Bpitch Control, Mobilee, 8Bit, Supernature as labels.
Topspin: And could you think of your all-time favorite track?
UGLH: The Hit Crew - Pure Imagination
Topspin: Ok Great! Please let us know more about your partner - Federico Locchi - how did you both met and what leads you while working together?
UGLH: Well, Federico lives in Perugia so it was easy to meet. About one year ago, after he listened to our productions, he contacted us asking to try to do something together. Then we started to pull together our own experiences...
Topspin: As we understood, Caramella Records is your own label, right? Would be really cool, to hear few words about it:
UGLH: Yes, it is. We started it, as we needed to have something with more vibes on the music aiming for quality and not quantity. That's the reason why Intergroove said yes to distribute the label and some big artists agreed to collaborate with us. In spite of it being a young label, Caramella Records has already released artists such as Gorge, Nima Gorji, Leon, Caytas & Patz... Just now we're planning the new releases... Absolutely stay tuned!!!
Topspin: What are your plans for second part of 2010? Events, releases, labels - anything:
UGLH: Just a few words about it cause we don't love to talk about something that is not already happened and it's not because of superstition... These days we're preparing a live set and will bring it out of Italy... Talking about the forthcoming releases, they'll be on Supernature, We Dig Music, 8Bit, Housenation, Noir and of course something special is coming soon on Caramella Records!!
Topspin: Thanks for joining guys! It was a pleasure for us!
UGLH: Thanks to you and congratulations for your Vibra Macz Show! Ciao!!
